What is Dark Shadows?
Dark Shadows is a gothic soap opera that ran on ABC from 1966 - 1971. For the most part the story is about a reluctant vampire, Barnabas Collins, his family members from the past, present, and future, as well as his enemies. There is a lot of time travel and dimensional jumping involved in the storylines. There were also two motion pictures based on the TV show, House of Dark Shadows (1970) and Night of Dark Shadows (1971). Around 1990/1991 there was a short revival series that ran for 12 episodes. It is not liked by many fans, but was my personal exposure to the show and upon rewatching it on home video, I thought it was very good.

Where does Dark Shadows take place?
The story is confined for the most part to the fictional fishing village of Collinsport, on the coast of Maine. It's general location is based around the area of Bar Harbor, Maine.

How many episodes were there?
The series ran daily for 5 years (not counting pre-emptions due to war coverage). The episode count is around 1,225.

How can I view the series?
For several years the series ran on the Sci-Fi channel until it was dropped from the schedule about last year or so. The only way to see the series currently is to pick it up on DVD from MPI. The box sets run for around $60 a piece, depending on where you buy them. But at 40 episodes per set, that comes out to approxiamately $1.50 per episode. The DVDs come with bonus interviews at the end of each disc.

Is the show worth it?
If you are a fan of gothic horror, vampires, werewolves, ghost stories and the like then yes. The series does have it's campy moments, but it also has it's incredibly spooky moments as well. If you like classic horror movies, then chances are you'd like this show.

How long has this website been around?
Sometime in the year 2000 I started this little venture and it ran strongly until the winter of 2002. At that time I just lost interest in keeping it going. I started reviving it at verious times over the following 2 years, but it wasn't until now, April of 2004, that I finally sat down to put it back on the internet again.

Who are you?
Well my handle is Arashi, and I've been online (as such) since 1996. I currently live (coincidentally enough) on the seacoast on Maine. As of this writing I am 24 years old & a capricorn.
