The problem with being foreign fan

There are many, but one that concerns me the most at the moment, showing support for the return of Kago Ai.

Being a foreign fan, you really have NO VOICE when it comes to showing support. More often than not you can't attend concerts or special events, can't watch TV shows as they are, which is important to measure ratings, and can't shop at any of the H!P stores with any regularity. You can show support by buying merchandise online, but it's really just a drop in the bucket if you think about it. We represent a very marginal section of the fan community.

Another problem with being a foreign fan is having different view points regarding idol behavior. Being an American, and a girl besides, I don't see the girls as untouchable, infallible virgins. Aibon getting caught smoking shattered no preconceived fantasy notions of mine regarding her virtues. I frowned on her behavior, in the sense that it's not healthy especially if you are a singer! but also because as an idol she is a role model to children. Still, none of this would have prevented me from buying W's 3rd album, which was slated for release so soon after the scandal broke.

In the end all we can do is hope for her return in the very near future.

I couldn't agree more with every word you've said.
One thing I've always wondered is how many foreign fans actually buy merchandise and how many just download it, but as you say I can't imagine it would amount to much...but it's a show of support none the less.

Again with the Aibon comments totally agree, Aibon smoking hasn't really changed my opinion of her and wouldn't have affected me in buying W's 3rd album, admittedly she now appears slightly less cute and dare I say it more like the rest of us...as to whether that's a good thing or not is totally different thing, gotta keep up that idol image.
When you think of some of the things that American/English singers get up to what Kago done is small fry, it's not like she spent the night in a drug/booze fuelled frenzy, she was smoking a damn fag...but then it's not the image she had set herself, and I'm sure her contract states what she and can't do and I'm guessing getting caught smoking and complaining about H!P wasn't one of them.

I have such mixed feelings on this now I don't really no what to say any more, I blame Kago for doing what she did as it was completely irresponsible and obviously illegal so the punishment is deserved, but then again she may be an idol but she's only human, people need to have an outlet and if having a smoke is her only vice then that's cool with me...just don't do it in public damn it!!
